New Berlin West 7th Grade Lady Vikings Basketball Team Takes 2nd at State

This past weekend the 7th Grade Lady Vikings Basketball team had an outstanding couple of days. The coaches are excited for the girls on their high achievement and outstanding play.

 

The 7th Grade Lady Vikings Basketball Team took 2nd Place (Runner Up) this past weekend (4/10/10-4/11/10) at the 2010 Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament – Medium Division. The tournament included the best 80 teams throughout the State of Wisconsin, which were spread over three divisions. The ladies battled through pool play by beating Two Rivers in game #1 (38-21). In the second pool play game they took out Kiel (26-18) and in the final pool play game they beat last year’s runner up Little Chute (42-34). This allowed the ladies to compete in the Sweet 16, where they secured a victory against Wrightstown (36-23) moving them into the Elite Eight. The team then played New London winning (34-30), moving them into the Final Four. In the Final Four the Lady Vikings battled Oconto Falls for the victory (34-26).

 

They then went undefeated into the State Tournament Championship game against Xavier where the Lady Vikings fell 12 points short, losing (36-24). Over the entire tournament the 7th Grade Lady Vikings played as a team and dominated their opponents. One of the team’s goals was to improve their play in the tournament compared to last year and hopefully do better. Last year the girls placed 6th. Making it all the way to the Championship game and taking 2nd place (State Runner Up) is an amazing feat.
