New Berlin West Alum Helps UW-Whitewater Advance to NCAA D-III National Championship Game

Chris Treptow, a sophomore defensive back, has helped the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team (14-0) win its 33rd Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship and help send it to its eighth appearance in the Division-III National Championship game in the past nine seasons. UW-W will meet Mount Union (14-0) for the eighth time in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl to be played on Friday, December 20 in Salem, Va. The game can be seen on ESPNU or ESPN3.com

The Warhawks went 10-0 in the regular season, capturing their 33rd WIAC championship, eighth of the past nine years. In the NCAA Playoffs UW-W defeated St. Norbert, 31-7, in the first round and Franklin College, 33-3 in the second round. After defeating Linfield (OR), 28-17, Whitewater traveled to Belton, Texas to take on the top-ranked offense in the nation in the semifinal round and walked away with a 16-15 victory to advance to the NCAA National Championship game.

UW-W has the number one ranked scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 8.7 points per contest and is second in turnover margin, averaging +2.2 per game.. The defense is ranked in the top-10 in other defensive categories such as rushing defense (6th/76.1 yds/gm), pass efficiency defense (6th/76.1), total defense (3rd/237 yds/gm). The special teams have set up the offense by giving it great field position. The kickoff returns are second in the nation, averaging 27.53 yards per return.
