March 2, 2013

Cascio Interstate Music Superstore, 13819 W. National Ave. in New Berlin, presents former Riverdance musician Derek Byrne in a free clinic – "Learn to Play Traditional Irish Instruments," on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. The event is sponsored by Cascio Interstate Music, Hal Leonard Corporation and Waltons Music, the world's largest manufacturer of bodhrans (Irish frame drums).

With St Patrick’s Day almost here, now is a great time to try playing Irish music! For those longing to play Irish ballads, jigs or reels in their home or even at a session, this is a great opportunity. No experience is needed … anyone can do this! The bodhran, bones and spoons are affordable and easy to learn. If folks want to impress their friends or join in with the band at their favorite Irish bar, they're encouraged to attend this workshop and give it a try. Musicians at all levels will learn something new.

• Learn the rhythms used in Irish music
• Play along with Irish music in a drum circle setting while Derek goes from player to player giving tips on technique
• Get the chance to play pro-level authentic Irish percussion instruments
• Learn the history of the bodhran, bones and spoons
• Learn the do’s and don’ts of Irish session etiquette
• Learn how to care for, maintain and condition the bodhran in the Wisconsin climate
• Get the chance to purchase the Instruments played at the event!

Derek Byrne was born in Ireland and toured the world for six years as a musician with Riverdance, the phenomenal, international theatrical show of Irish dance and music.
