BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS MENTORS NEEDED AT AREA SCHOOLS

Feb. 7, 2012 | 0 comments

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Metro Milwaukee is expanding services in Waukesha County and seeking adult volunteers who are interested in making positive change in their community through one-to-one, professionally supported mentoring.

The greatest need is for adults to mentor elementary and middle school-aged children in structured school settings in Waukesha County. Male and female mentors, aged 18 and older, are needed to start the enrollment process now for volunteer opportunities starting in the spring.

Applicants who want to begin mentoring this spring are asked to enroll by Friday, Feb. 24 and are required to complete a comprehensive enrollment process, which includes an in-person interview with a BBBS staff member.

In this school-based program, volunteers (Bigs) who have been matched with a child (Little) meet weekly for a minimum of one hour either during the school day or after school. Together, the volunteer mentor and the child concentrate on academic achievement, recreational activities and emotional development. “Bigs” and “Littles” are matched together based on similar interests and values. Each site’s staff coordinator provides adult oversight, planned activities, direct match support and outcome measurement.

For information on times/locations or to enroll, contact BBBS of Metro Milwaukee at 414-831-4563, email StartSomething@bbbsmilwaukee.org or visit — www.bbbsmilwaukee.org.

The BBBS of Metro Milwaukee mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. The organization’s vision is that all children achieve success in life. BBBS partners with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community and is accountable for each child in the program achieving: higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships; avoidance of risky behaviors and educational success.
