Congratulations to the New Berlin Swim Club for an outstanding job at State and Central Zones.
The 12+Under Long Course Meter State Swimmers (July 23-25): Jenny Anderson, Nicole Bellford, Paige Carter, Caitlin Durley, Alyssa Kaiser, Kali Kaiser, Gabrielle Matiszik, Shayna Putney, Izzy Sonday, Lily Sonday, Madison Tew and Molly Wannamaker brought home the 2nd place over-all team award for Division 2.
Madison is the 11-12 age group State Champion and new record holder in the 400 meter Freestyle with the winning time of 4:38.65 beating the previous record set in 1989. Madison also received awards for: 3rd in the 50 Free, 7th in the 100 Fly, 3rd in the 800 Free, 3rd in the 200 Free and 10th in the 50 Fly. Other award winners in the 11-12 age group included: Jenny Anderson: 15th in the 100 Breast and 15th in the 200 Breast. Nicole Bellford: 4th in the 200 Fly, 6th in the 400 Free, 6th in the 50 Free, 3rd in the 100 Fly, 9th in the 100 Free, 7th in the 200 Free and 11th in the 50 Fly. Paige Carter: 9th in the 100 Back, 15th in the 200 Back and 16th in the 50 Back. Caitlin Durley: 15th in the 50 Breast, 8th in the 100 Breast, 15th in the 200 IM and 9th in the 200 Breast. Shayna Putney: 15th in the 100 Fly and 14th in the 100 Free. The “A” Relay Team of Paige, Caitlin, Nicole and Madison received awards for 4th in the 400 Medley Relay and 6th in the 200 Medley Relay. The “A” Relay Team of Nicole, Shayna, Paige and Madison brought home the 4th place award in the 200 Free Relay and 3rd in the 400 Free Relay. 10+Under award winner Kali Kaiser placed 15th in the 100 Free, 6th in the 400 Free, 12th in the 200 IM and 11th in the 200 Free.
Nicole, Kali, Madison, Paige and Caitlin set new NBSC individual team records and all “A” relay teams also set new team records.
The following week, the 13+Over Long Course Meter State Swimmers (July 29-Aug 1): Alli Bellford, Stefanie Durley, Jordan Keiser, Gina Lupo, Kayla Martin, Matthew Olenchek, Taylor Petrauski, Corey Wannamaker and Jackson Wannamaker placed 18th in Division 2.
The 13-14 age group award winners were Steffi Durley: 16th in the 200 Fly and 6th in the 100 Fly. Taylor Petrauski: 12th in the 100 Back and 10th in the 200 Back (breaking a club record). Jackson Wannamaker: 15th in the 1500 Free. Other award winners included, age group 15-16 Alli Bellford: 13th in the 50 Free and the Senior 17+Over swimmers, Kayla Martin: 14th in the 100 Fly and 15th in the 200 IM. Corey Wannamaker: 12th in the 100 Free and 4th in the 50 Free. The relay team of Alli, Kayla, Steffi and Corey also scored points for the team in the 200 Free Relay placing 12th.
With State completed, Nicole Bellford, Caitlin Durley, Steffi Durley, Shayna Putney and Madison Tew took part in the Central Zone Championships as members of Team Wisconsin (Aug 6-9). They competed against other swimmers from Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Minnesota. Award winners at Zones included Nicole Bellford: 13th in the 200 Fly, 13th in the 50 Fly, 11th in the 400 Free, 8th in the 200 Free and 8th in the 100 Fly. Madison Tew: 3rd in the 100 Free, 10th in the 50 Free, 7th in the 400 Free and 5th in the 200 Free. Steffi Durley: 14th in the 100 Fly. Nicole and Madison were part of the 200 Medley Relay team placing 4th. Madison was also part of the 2nd place 200 Free Relay, 5th place 400 Medley Relay and on the 1st place 400 Free Relay setting a new 11-12 girls zone record of 4:10.31.
Steffi Durley, Kali Kaiser and Madison Tew also participated in the Open Water Zone Championships at Lake Andrea in Pleasant Prairie. Kali placed 14th in the ½ mile swim and Madison placed 2nd in the 1 mile swim.
Other Zone qualifiers included: Alli Bellford, Paige Carter, Kayla Martin, Taylor Petrauski and Corey Wannamaker
A special Congratulations goes out to Coach Nickie Tew for being voted on and selected as a Team Wisconsin Zone Coach.
