Eisenhower boys soccer

The New Berlin Eisenhower boys soccer team announced its award winners at the Lions end-of-the-season banquet Oct. 30.

Blake Duffin received the Player of the Year Award, one of five honors given out by coach Gary Troy.

The Defender of the Year was Andrew Swiecichowski, the Rookie of the Year is Zachary Jasulski, the Most Improved Player is Joshua Luna and the Champion's League Winner is Nick Popp.

The Lions also had four all-Woodland Conference players on some level.

Hesselbach was a first-team forward and Swiecichowski was a second-team defender. Honorable mention positions went to forward Ross Riopelle and midfielder Duffin.

Hesselbach was also a Scholar-Athlete.

Troy will lose 12 seniors off this year's team - Duffin, Hesselbach, Jasulski, Luna, Riopelle, Swiecichowski, Jake Antoniewicz, Derek Bachmann, Jeremy Blackbourn, Michael Dunham, Andrew Melian and Lukas Walter.

The Lions finished in seventh place in the Woodland Conference with a 5-5-1 record, but they played some "great soccer" at the end of the season, beating Wisconsin Lutheran in the regional, Troy said.

United boys volleyball

The New Berlin United boys volleyball team beat Kenosha Tremper in the WIAA Sectional semifinals on Nov. 1 at Tremper, but then lost to Muskego on Nov. 3 in a WIAA Sectional final match.

The United beat Tremper in five games to advance to the finals, winning two of the first three sets (25-20, 25-27, 25-21), before the Trojans won the fourth set (21-25). United then won the fifth set (15-11) and the match.

At Muskego two days later, the Warriors won the thrilling match in five sets (25-23, 20-25, 26-24, 19-25, 15-13). No individual stats were turned in.
