West youth soccer camp proves to be a success
The 2012 New Berlin West youth soccer camp attracted 31 youths in grades one through eight.
Coaches Hansi Herzog and Peter Knebel were the directors of the camp, and a number of West junior varsity and varsity players helped out as well.
The goal for next season is 100 campers, Knebel said.
Albino sisters earn places at Junior Olympic meet
Rayce and Dailey Albino of New Berlin earned high places at the USATF Region 8 Junior Olympic Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on July 5-8.
Rayce took second in the intermediate girls pole vault at 10 feet, while Dailey captured fourth in the midget girls javelin with 21 meters.
Both qualified for the National Junior Olympics Championships in Baltimore this week at Morgan State University.
Lipinski, Lohr named to all-time WIAC team
C.J. Lipinski and Shane Lohr, both New Berlin West graduates, were named to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Time Men's Soccer Team.
Lipinski played at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 2003-05 and Lohr was at Oshkosh from 2000-03.
The honor is in conjunction with the centennial celebration of the conference.
Olson played on Lightning championship volleyball team
Nick Olson of New Berlin Eisenhower High School played on the West Allis Lightning Volleyball Club boys' 18 team that claimed the national junior championship in Dallas.
Olson made the 18 Open All-Tournament team as well for the Lightning, which defeated SCVC 18's QuickSilver of Southern California, 25-27, 25-22, 15-10, in the title match.
Junior Popes schedule tryouts for baseball team
Tryouts for the Junior Popes baseball program will be held on Aug. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m.
The U-8 and U-9 group tryouts will run from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the U-10 and U-11 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
Also, coaches are needed for the U-8, U-9 and U-11 age levels. Teams will play between 14 and 20 league games and three to five tournaments per season.
