Marlins win Comet Invite for sixth straight season
Also open season with crushing win over Brown Deer/USM
New Berlin - The New Berlin Marlins boys swimmers had a great week, winning a dual meet to start the week and then finishing the week by winning the Comet Invitational at Delavan-Darien on Saturday for the sixth year in a row.
The Marlins finished with seven first-place finishes.
The meet started off great with a first-place finish from the 200-yard medley relay (1:43.26) of Taylor Petrauski, Matthew Olenchek, Jasen Johnson and Zach Solie.
Johnson and Olenchek took first in the 100 butterfly (53.20) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.08) and the 100 freestyle (50.33) and 100 backstroke (57.29), respectively.
Solie then took first in the 200 free (1:56.36) with Jackson Wannamaker placing second (1:57.17). The additional first-place finish went to Wannamaker in the 500 freestyle (5:14.22).
Other top finishes included Petrauski second in the 200 individual medley (2:16.21) and 100 backstroke (58.36), Solie third in the 500 freestyle (5:23.09), and the 400 free relay team placing second with Olenchek, Scott Franke, Solie and Johnson (3:29.34).
New Berlin won the event with 426 points, well ahead of second-place Milton (402).
The Marlins beat Brown Deer/University School of Milwaukee, 132-48 on Nov. 30 in their first meet of the season at home.
The night started off with a win in the 200 medley relay (1 minute, 48.44 seconds) with Petrauski, Kevin Stock, Johnson and Olenchek.
Johnson also placed first in the 100 butterfly (53.17) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.43), while Olenchek was first in the 100 freestyle (50.94) and 100 backstroke (57.76).
The 200 free relay team swam to a first-place finish (1:44.12) with Ian Sanders, Scott Franke, Jackson Wannamaker and Zach Solie. Other first-place finishes included Scott Franke in the 50 free (24.94), Petrauski in the 200 individual medley (2:15.67), Wannamaker in the 500 free (5:16.81), Solie in the 200 free (1:55.47) and diver Zach Stoltenburg with 142.65 points.
Petrauski, Solie, Johnson and Olenchek closed out the night with a win in the 400 free relay (3:37.03).
