Oct. 3, 2011 | 0 comments

The New Berlin Eisenhower girls tennis team defeated the rain and won the Woodland Conference Tennis Championship, edging Wauwatosa West by just four points.

The Lions advanced players in all flights to the semifinals.

Flight winners were seniors Becky Dobrzynski/Lauren Slonac at No. 1 doubles and juniors Jenna York/Katie Lang at No. 2 doubles. On the singles side, junior Hanna Muche advanced at No. 1 singles.

Dobrzynski/Slonac defeated Greendale for the title (6-0, 6-2) and York/Lang defeated Shorewood (6-4, 6-2) to win their titles.

Muche won her singles title over Shorewood (6-2, 6-3).

Sophomore Kelly Dobrzynski took second at No. 4 singles, losing to Tosa West (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) in the finals.

Third-place finishes went to senior Sara Brown at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-4) over Shorewood and senior Rachel Weigand/freshman Kristin Sperka at No. 3 doubles (default over Greendale).

"I am very proud of the way our girls fought through the adverse conditions this week," coach Mike Jenders said. "After not achieving our team goal in the winning the regular season, we stepped it up and came through with the tournament championship.

"It has been a very rewarding season so far."
