New Berlin Eisenhower boys basketball
The Lions closed out their near-perfect regular season with a 62-41 victory at Greenfield on Feb. 24.
Mitch Sperka led a trio of Eisenhower players to reach double digits with his game-high 16. Keith Kahlfeldt and Brian York chipped in 12 apiece for the Lions (21-1, 16-1), who play host to either Milwaukee Lutheran or Milwaukee School of Languages at 7 p.m. today in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal. The winner plays at 1 p.m. Saturday at Marquette in the regional final.
In the regular season finale, Eisenhower turned its three-point halftime lead into a blowout by outscoring the host Hustlin' Hawks, 38-20, in the second half.
New Berlin wrestling
The local co-op was shut out at the WIAA Division 1 Individual State Tournament on Feb. 25 and 26.
Junior Zach Brucker (42-8) lost a pair of matches at 135 pounds. He opened with a 13-7 defeat to Stoughton's Jackson Urso and then was edged, 4-2, in the consolation round by Hartford Union's Jarid Baumgartner.
Senior Nick Binder (40-8) lost, 11-3, to Racine Case's Justin Hergins in the first-round and did not get a wrestleback when Baumgartner lost his second-round match.
New Berlin Eisenhower girls basketball
The Lions reached 70 or more points for the fourth time this season with a 76-39 rout of visiting Greenfield that included a 32-0 first-quarter start Friday.
Jenna Hammernick led the scoring barrage with a game-high 13 points for Eisenhower (19-2, 15-1). Megan Tkachuk chipped in 12, Nicole Bauman and Anna Hahn had 10 each and Kali Shandley added nine for the Lions, who made 32 field goals.
The Lions finished the regular season at Wauwatosa West on Wednesday and begin the WIAA Division 2 postseason as the top-seeded team with a regional semifinal game at home against either Milwaukee Marshall/Juneau or Milwaukee School of Languages at 7 p.m. March 11.
New Berlin West girls basketball
The Vikings had their five-game winning streak snapped by Midwest Classic South Division-leading Whitefish Bay Dominican on Friday.
The Green Knights got 34 points from Dilonna Johnson, including six 3-pointers, and 17 from Deysha Smith-Jenkins in a 63-47 victory over the Vikings.
Dominican jumped out to a 22-9 lead after one quarter and never looked back.
Freshman center Stephanie Turner continued her strong play with 23 points, but none of her Viking teammates had more than seven.
West (14-7, 12-5) closed the regular season Wednesday against St. Francis. The Vikings are seeded second and host St. Joan Antida at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a Division 2 regional quarterfinal.
Muskego boys basketball
Despite outscoring Racine Case by 13 points in the fourth quarter, the visiting Warriors lost, 65-62, in the regular season finale Feb. 25.
Max Miskowiec (16) and Craig Robins (14) combined for 30 points for Muskego and Jake Pope chipped in nine, but five Eagles scored more than nine points, including Najee Farr's game-high 17.
