Muskego swimming
Senior Bobby Wolf capped his career with a ninth-place swim in the 500-yard freestyle at the WIAA State Meet on Saturday in Madison.
Wolf finished in 4 minutes, 46.14 seconds, approximately 15 seconds off the pace set by Madison Memorial senior Michael Drives. Wolf's teammate, freshman Patrick Walsh, was close behind in 4:48.78, good for 13th.
Wolf also swam 18th in the 200 free (1:47.42) and teamed with Walsh and juniors Ben Wierzba and Brian Roberts to take 21st in the 400 free relay.
Roberts also took 21st in the 100 free (50.06) for the Warriors, who finished 30th with 13 points.
Muskego girls basketball
The Warriors set themselves up for a conference title game showdown by avenging an earlier loss to Oak Creek with a 57-45 victory over the host Knights on Friday.
Muskego improved to 11-1 in the Southeast Conference (15-3 overall), one game ahead of second-place Racine Case (10-2). Those teams meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Muskego. A Warriors' win would give the program its second straight outright league title.
Against the Knights, who snapped the Warriors' 25-league-game winning streak in January, Katie Ellerson dropped in a game-high 21 points and Alyssa Colla added 18, including three 3-pointers. Muskego took over in the second half by outscoring Oak Creek, 29-19.
New Berlin Eisenhower girls basketball
The Lions bounced back from their second loss of the season by trouncing visiting Whitnall, 50-17, Saturday.
The visitors made only six shots and Eisenhower (18-2, 14-1) did not allow more than five points in any quarter.
Nicole Bauman led all players with 11 points and Anna Hahn added 10.
Three nights earlier, the Lions struggled against two-time state qualifying Brookfield Central and lost, 58-36, on the road.
The Lancers' 17-9 advantage in the second quarter gave the hosts a nine-point halftime advantage they never relinquished.
New Berlin West boys basketball
Despite back-to-back season-low efforts from its leading scorer, the Vikings closed the regular season with a pair of victories and are still in the hunt for a share of the Woodland Conference Blue Division title.
Chad Mathwig scored just one point, but Jesse Riehle had a season-high 22 and Kyle Rampone (12) and Cody Tomsak (10) combined for another 22 as New Berlin West defeated visiting St. Thomas More, 55-48, in overtime Friday.
"They did a nice job on him, and we determined it was best to go to another person," Vikings coach Jeff Lewiston said. "It was a very good win for us."
Three nights earlier, Mathwig was limited to just nine, but he was one of six Vikings with six or more, including Tomsak's game-high 12, in a 60-32 victory at St. Francis.
West finished 16-6, 15-3 in conference, a half game behind Pewaukee in the Blue Division. The Pirates close the regular season against St. Thomas More on Thursday.
The fourth-seeded Vikings open the WIAA Division 2 postseason against fifth-seeded Milwaukee Marshall/Juneau at 7 p.m. March 2.
Muskego boys basketball
The Warriors ensured themselves of at least a .500 record in Southeast Conference play with back-to-back home wins over Racine Horlick on Feb.16 and Oak Creek on Friday.
Muskego used a 22-9 run against Horlick to come from behind and win, 57-48.
Danny Frawley had a team-high 14 points for the Warriors, who also got nine apiece from Max Miskowiec and Craig Robins.
Three nights later, Jake Pope led Muskego with 10 points, but it was the Warriors' defense that paved the way to a 50-37 victory over Oak Creek.
Muskego improved to 9-12 overall, 7-6 conference and finishes the regular season at Racine Case at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The Warriors, seeded ninth, will visit eighth-seeded Franklin at 7 p.m. March 2 in a regional semifinal.
New Berlin West girls basketball
The Vikings had little trouble extending their winning streak to five games, drubbing host St. Thomas More, 46-22, on Friday.
West's Hailey Kunz's hot shooting continued with three 3-pointers en route to 13 points, a total teammate Stephanie Turner matched as well.
The Vikings (14-6, 12-5) limited the Cavaliers to just 12 points through three quarters.
The victory was West's ninth in 10 games.
