Muskego swimming

The Warriors had enough firepower to win twice and finish with state qualifiers in nine of 12 events at the ultra-talented Waukesha South/Mukwonago Sectional on Saturday.

Senior Brittany Walsh picked up Muskego's first win by taking the 500-yard freestyle in 4 minutes, 58.70 seconds. Right behind her was teammate Jessica Wolf in 4:59.90, and Muskego's Kristin Kaiser was sixth in 5:11.26. All three qualified for state as seven of the state's top-25 sectional times came from the Warriors' sectional.

Sophomore Sami Pochowski turned in Muskego's other win with a 1:06.79 in the breaststroke.

The WIAA Division 1 State Meet is 3 p.m. Saturday at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium in Madison.

The Warriors had three qualifiers in two other events. Wolf (1:55.29), Walsh (1:56.06) and Kaiser (1:56.31) were sixth, seventh and eighth in the 200 free, and in the 100 butterfly, Emma Szczupakiewicz was third (58.66), Megan Liebl fourth (58.93) and Hope Borland sixth (1:00.20).

Other Muskego state qualifiers were the 200 medley relay of Szczupakiewicz, Pochowski, Borland and Liebl (second at sectional in 1:50.15); Pochowski in the 100 free (third, 52.29); the 200 free relay of Pochowski, Kaiser, Wolf and Liebl (third, 2:39.38); Szczupakiewicz (third, 59.14) and Liebl (fourth, 59.71) in the 100 backstroke and the 400 free relay of Szczupakiewicz, Wolf, Walsh and Kaiser (third, 3:38.07).

The Warriors tied for second with the host school with 334 points at the sectional, behind only Arrowhead's 424.

Junior Corey Wannamaker's pair of wins highlighted the Vikings' efforts at the Cudahy Sectional on Saturday.

Wannamaker won the 50 free in 24.91 and the 100 free in 54.32 to earn a pair of automatic berths for the WIAA Division 2 State Meet, to be held Friday at the Natatorium in Madison.

Wannamaker also teamed with Katie Hausmann, Lindsey Rodenkirk and Leah Kritter for fourth in the 200 free relay in 1:43.76, also good enough for a state berth. Those same four were fourth in the 400 free relay as well, in 3:51.47, approximately 4 seconds off the state qualifying time.

Hausmann also finished third in diving with 307.40 points, which earned her a state nod.

Division 2 state diving is at 2:30 p.m.; swimming begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Vikings had 211 points at the 15-team sectional, good for fifth behind Milton (320 points), Elkhorn (310), Whitnall (256) and Fort Atkinson (245).

New Berlin Eisenhower swimming

Sophomore Alli Bellford was edged by two one-hundredths of a second in the 50 free at the Cudahy Sectional, but still posted the state's fourth-fastest sectional time Saturday to earn a state berth, to be held 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Natatorium in Madison.

Bellford's 24.93 was second to New Berlin West's Corey Wannamaker's 24.91. The two will meet again at the D2 state meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Joining Bellford at state will be Eisenhower teammate, sophomore Leah Fraleigh, who was second at the sectional in diving with 314.20 points. State diving is at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Bellford was also fifth in the 100 free (56.16) and Gina Lupo fourth in the 500 free (5:45.56) at Cudahy, where the Lions placed eighth with 165 points.

The Warriors' season ended with a 28-26, 25-16, 25-10 sectional semifinal loss to eventual state qualifier and host New Berlin on Nov. 3.
