Kunz state finalist for Wendy's High School Heisman Award

As the competition narrows for the 2012 Wendy's High School Heisman Award program, Abby Kunz of New Berlin West is one of 20 of Wisconsin's top scholar-athletes who is a state finalist for the prestigious award.

One male and one female finalist from each state will be named state winners. Of those, 12 will be chosen as national finalists and will compete for the national title in New York City on Dec. 7. National finalists will be featured during a televised ceremony on ESPN networks and will receive gold medals and $2,000 awards for their high schools.

One male and one female national winner will receive a crystal Wendy's High School Heisman trophy, a $500 gift certificate to Wendy's, and Wendy's will donate $10,000 to each winner's respective high school. Additionally, the winners will be recognized during the collegiate Heisman Trophy broadcast on ESPN on Dec. 8.

Vikings' kicker receives All-State mention

New Berlin West senior Kevin Marx received mention on the 2012 Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association all-state team.

A senior forward, Marx was named as a Best of the Rest selection as a players also receiving votes.

Muskego's Elert wins state youth soccer event

Johanna Elert of Muskego won the Knights of Columbus state soccer competition for 14-year-old girls held recently in Marshfield.

Weiland off to Winona State on basketball scholarship

New Berlin Eisenhower's Jenny Weiland has signed a letter of intent to attend Winona State University (Minn.) on a basketball scholarship.

Weiland, a key member for the Lions the past three years, is expected to play a big role for the 2012-13 squad.

Reuteler named to WLC football team as fullback

Zach Reuteler, a sophomore at Wisconsin Lutheran College, is a member of the Warriors football team.

Zach, son of Ron and Sherry Reuteler of New Berlin, is a fullback for the Warriors.

Trio of local golfers play for WLC this season

Sophomore Danny Frawley of Muskego, along with sophomore Jake Gaudynski and junior Ryan Hartig, both of New Berlin, are members of the Wisconsin Lutheran College golf team.

Jake, son of Jerry and Laura Gaudynski, was named to the 2011 All-NAC First Team after a fifth-place finish at the NAC Championships.

Former Viking earns Warhawk Player of Week grid honor

Christopher Treptow, a New Berlin West graduate and a student at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, was named the Warhawks Special Teams Player of the Week recently for his play against UW-Oshkosh.

Treptow limited field position with his two solo tackles against Oshkosh. His first tackle was on a punt return, with the punt received on the 19 and Treptow made the tackle on the 19. The second tackle came on a kickoff return that was received at the two with Treptow's tackle at the Oshkosh 20.

Koltz named Whitewater Player of the Week

New Berlin Eisenhower's Cole Koltz is a UW-Whitewater football player of the week for his efforts against Stevens Point.

Klotz, an Elm Grove resident, is a junior linebacker, who led Whitewater with 11 total tackles (nine solo) against the Pointers. Klotz was also credited with one tackle for a loss (minus two yards).

Both the solo tackles and total tackles are season highs for Klotz. Klotz helped the Warhawks' defense limit the Pointers to 65 yards rushing on 25 attempts (2.6 average), without a rushing touchdown, and 275 total yards of offense.

Ripon's Gary earns all-conference volleyball honors

Former New Berlin Eisenhower student-athlete Emily Gary earned second-team All-Conference honors, the only Ripon player on either first or second team.

Gary led the team with 277 kills, the first time a freshman had that honor since 2006. Also led the team in total blocks (87) and tied for the solo blocks lead (23) and service aces (25).
