New Berlin - Large-mouth bass mailboxes were hooked and reeled in by thieves, not fishermen, the nights of Nov. 8 and 9.
Each mailbox is worth an estimated $135. At least one of the mailboxes disappeared, post and all. Another was taken still attached to the arm that it was mounted on.
The first of the decorative mailboxes was taken from the 14000 block of West Dakota Street in northeast New Berlin on Nov. 8.
The following night, another disappeared from the extreme northeast corner of the city in the 2500 block of South 134th Street. That same night, another disappeared from the extreme west side, almost in Waukesha, in about central New Berlin in the 21400 block of West Hidden Valley Drive.
Police suspect youths are responsible.
