Police officer honored
with excellence award
New Berlin — New Berlin Police Officer Ryan Puente has been awarded the 16th Annual John W. Bauer Award for Municipal Excellence.
This award was created to carry on the tradition of outstanding customer service as practiced by John W. Bauer, a former city employee of 30 years. City employees are nominated by residents and fellow workers for their outstanding customer service.
Puente was honored for working diligently on behalf of the New Berlin food pantry, particularly spearheading a food drive at both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Puente also is the coordinator of the New Berlin Honor Guard that, under his direction, has served at parades, ceremonies, funerals and other functions throughout Wisconsin. The honor guard is a sterling ambassador of New Berlin as a result of Puente's leadership, Mayor Dave Ament said in a press release announcing the award.
Puente is known to always go above and beyond the call of duty when assisting residents, fellow employees, the department and organizations, Ament said.
"Ryan's attention to detail, his respectful actions and his kindness to others are all a wonderful reflection of the Police Department and the city as a whole," Ament said.

goes above and beyond
New Berlin — Home Care Medical Inc., a provider of home medical equipment and supplies, has received the Community Partnership Award from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee College of Health Sciences.
Home Care Medical received the award for the rehab technology team's multiple workshops on power and manual wheelchairs, and seating and positioning, which included demonstrations of the state-of-the-art pressure mapping system.
The overall goal was to discuss what mobility products are available in the market today and provide students with "hands-on" experience.
In addition, a "Survivor Occupational Therapy Challenge" was the highlight of the workshops in which teams of students raced to reassemble a manual wheelchair.
