New Berlin woman's crowning achievement focuses on bullying
Miss Wisconsin Collegiate 2014's platform features message to share in schools
New Berlin — Raquel Bruening, a 21-year-old New Berlin resident, was crowned Miss Wisconsin Collegiate 2014 recently at the Hopkins Center for the Arts in Hopkins, Minn.
Bruening is a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater majoring in instrumental/general music education.
Throughout her year, she will make appearances to share an anti-bullying message focusing on creating a respectful environment in schools. Her message will be based on the program of the organization CARE that is designed to raise awareness of bullying and harassment prevention and give practical solutions. The program promotes a safe environment in schools and teaches skills to develop social responsibility in school-age children.
The national scholarship competition will be held in Orlando from July 2 to 6.
