Council should give Poshepny his seat

Oct. 27, 2009 | 0 comments

Public Forum:

For a few years now, the New Berlin Common Council has amassed a long and expensive list of bad decisions, like Calhoun Road. It gets worse. Retaliation against their enemies is one of their nastier habits. Fifth District Alderman Joe Poshepny has been a thorn in their sides, and they saw their chance to get even.

Alderman Poshepny became seriously ill a few months ago and it required that a relative act in his behalf. The relative thought he should resign his aldermanic duties and presented him with a letter of resignation. He has no recollection of having signed the letter and when told what he had done a few days after the letter arrived at City Hall, he immediately sent a letter rescinding the resignation. The council accepted his first letter, but refused to accept the second. Action on his seat on the Council has been tabled. They have put him in political never-never land indefinitely, meaning that he cannot take his seat or vote on issues. Inaction is the consummate political cowardice. This council should put Alderman Poshepny back in his seat.

The principal power broker on the council has been Alderman Dave Ament. He has also been the architect of most of the bad decisions. In 1995, another council went out of control and was eventually shown the door by voters. New Berlin voters should watch what their aldermen are doing. You may not like what you see.
