New Berlin — A plan to build a concession/restroom building at the Eisenhower High School football field took a hard hit at Monday's School Board meeting - a hit that could knock out the plan before the football season begins.
School officials had hoped the building could be built for $400,000. But estimates reviewed by the board Monday came in at between $470,000 and $670,000, depending on which of the three plans offered by Eppstein Uhen Architects is chosen.
The School Board had hired the firm to offer designs for a potential building.
Superintendent Paul Kreutzer said at the meeting that he had sticker shock when he saw the estimates. Although board members seemed to like the building, they tabled a vote until their Aug.10 meeting.
The Eisenhower Football Booster Club came to the board with a request for the building and an offer to raise $110,000 to build it. The boosters had wanted the building to be ready for this football season.
After Monday's vote, booster club member David Kuehneman said, "We're going to regroup and come back to the School Board."
The club wants to give the community something it could be proud of, he added.
