Public Forum:
I will confess in advance that Mayor Chiovatero is a good friend and, yes I do work on his elections. Perhaps you will be interested in why.
The people I admire the most in life are those who tell the truth. But increasingly more and more politicians want to shift the blame to others and not make decisions that will cost them votes. When you think about it, being truthful is an act of courage. Throwing someone else under the bus is a coward's way out.
Jack and I have been friends for 15 years. I'm a former 5th District alderman. We served on the Common Council together eight years ago. I have been around him in a crisis or two and I have never known him to try to lie his way out of something. Imagine that, someone in politics who tells the truth.
If we re-elect him, we will be getting a conscientious, hard-working mayor and, heaven forbid, if the city has a crisis, one who will tell us the truth.
There is a saying: "Judge a man by the friends he keeps." I don't think I know anyone who has so many friends who are quality people. Among those friends we share, his attraction with them is his honesty. There is no more valuable friend than one who is honest.
