New Berlin Eisenhower team draws top cheers at state event
New Berlin - The Eisenhower Varsity Cheer and Stunt Team ended its season with taking the state championship for schools its size.
On its way to victory, the team captured more points than any of the 52 cheerleading squads in the statewide competition, regardless of school size.
The team fought its way to state by winning the Southern Regional Championship title at Wilmot Union High School. The girls won the state title in Madison.
The team includes captains Riley Brisk, Courtney Crubaugh and Mia Jennaro.
Members are seniors Lindsay Stubenrauch, Danijela Novakovic, Maggie Teipner and Paige Wisneiwski; juniors Courtney Brucker and Sarah Hall; sophomores Taylor Belongia, Gina Gatto, Jenny Jennaro, Kaitlin Slonac, Gabbie Torres and Talia Tranchita; and freshman Alexa Batson, Sara Farrell and Brianna Kesler
Head coach is Susan Belongia and assistant coach is Kristin Kohls.
The state victory came on top of the cheerleaders achieving what is believed to be the best national showing of an Eisenhower cheer team. After an exhausting journey to Orlando, delayed by snowstorms, the team placed 11th in the nation. Eisenhower was one of only three of the eight Wisconsin teams to advance to the finals of the National High School Cheerleading Championships.
