New Website to Highlight Public Assistance in Reporting Crimes

The Southeastern Wisconsin Threat Analysis Center, Wisconsin Department of Justice, and the United States Department of Homeland Security launched a website encouraging people to report suspicious activities.  The “If You See Something, Say Something”™ public awareness campaign is a way for law enforcement to seek public assistance reporting terrorism and terrorism-related crime.  Here is a link to the website:  http://city.milwaukee.gov/wiwatch

Wisconsin Department of Transportation announces projects to improve traffic flow near Zoo Interchange

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the following projects taking place over the next week to improve traffic flow near the Zoo Interchange

·        Implement a temporary traffic signal at I-894 and Lincoln Avenue and two temporary traffic signals at I-894 and National Avenue.   

  • Construct a double left turn lane on eastbound Cleveland Avenue to northeast National Avenue.
  • Extend left turn lane from westbound North Avenue to southbound US 45.
  • Convert several High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) diamond lanes at ramp meters to Single Occupancy (SOV) lanes at both entrance ramps at National Avenue and I-894, and the northbound on ramp from North Avenue to I-894. 
  • Mill and overlay the northeast National Avenue left turn lane onto the southbound I-894 on ramp.
  • Conduct pavement marking in various locations.

Governor's Weekly Radio Address

Hi, this is Scott Walker.

This week the federal government verified the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages for the first quarter of 2012.  It showed Wisconsin created more than 37,000 private sector jobs from March 2011 to March 2012, including a gain of 12,138 jobs in the manufacturing sector. 

Wisconsin’s continued private sector job growth is good news.  I am particularly pleased with the gains in the manufacturing sector, which makes up a huge portion of our state’s economy.

The internet grows more powerful, and more pervasive, every day.  It is not constrained by Ethernet cables or routers, many of us take web access with us on the go.  With all that convenience, it is easy to let your guard down.  That is the reason Governor Walker declared October to be Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Flags to Fly at half-staff on Monday October 8, 2012, in honor of Private First Class Arthur W. Hopfensperger

Governor Walker issued Executive Order #85 ordering flags within Wisconsin at half-staff Monday, October 8, 2012, to honor Private First Class Arthur W. Governor orders flags to half-staff on October 14, 2012, in honor of Second Lieutenant James A. Des Jardins

Governor Walker issued Executive Order 86 ordering flags fly half-staff Sunday, October 14, 2012, for Second Lieutenant James A. Des Jardins, United States Army.  Lieutenant Des Jardins lost his life serving his county during World War II.  The Lieutenant’s remains are returned to his family and there is a ceremony scheduled Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Green Bay.

2012 State of Wisconsin Fiscal Report, $108.7 Million Available for Rainy Day Fund

The Wisconsin Department of Administration issued the State of Wisconsin Annual Fiscal Report.  At the close of the 2011-12 fiscal year there is a $108.7 million available to deposit in the rainy day fund.  The $108.7 million is the largest deposit to the state rainy day fund in our state’s history.

Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Certifies 2012-13 K-12 General Aid Amounts

Serving as chair of the Senate Committee on Transportation and Elections during the recalls provided me an insider's perspective on election administration.  There are a number of issues that warrant legislative solutions. 

GAB Membership - The Government Accountability Board (GAB) is a six member board of semi-retired judges responsible for administering Wisconsin elections. Upon completion of a Board member’s six-year term, their replacement is appointed by the governor and confirmed by the State Senate.

Good Luck Muskego High School Lady Warrior Volleyball Team at State Tournament

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Launches Web Map to find Managed Forest Land with Public Access
