New Berlin Property taxes are lower in 2010
As is the New Berlin tradition, the second Saturday of December is the date that our property tax bill will magically appear in our mailbox.
The tradition continues this year.
I for one feel that the bills appear on Saturday when City Hall and other governmental offices are closed, for a reason. If you feel that the taxes are too high there is nobody that you can call and complain to until Monday. By that time the taxpayer is calmed down and probably won't complain at all.
We in New Berlin have had a decrease in our total taxes again this year, inspite of being re-assesed. My taxes actually decreased more than $100.
We should all thank the Aldermen for insisting upon a 4.5% decline and the School Board members for a 1.6% decline.
This will help all taxpayers at least a little.
Seniors receiving Socail Security payments also received their 2010 statement which confirmed that there will be no increase for 2010.

joeblow - the budget process went on for several months and there was a lot of discussion. I did pay attention. If you if you didn't go back and check the minutes. I'm not going to do your research.

Joeblow - you should actually listen to what is being said at your City meetings. At the very beginning of 2009 the mayor was made aware of an $800,000 shortfall in revenues and fees but did not tell the aldermen until June. Lets see now…before his re-election run the mayor wants the voters to think he is running the City efficiently, so he doesn’t tell anyone about the $800,000 shortfall he is responsible for. Once the election is over the mayor tells the aldermen in June about the shortfall. You also conveniently didn’t mention that the mayor’s proposed 2010 budget had a 6.5% levy increase. The 6.5% increase the mayor was asking for was over and above the $1 Million he was taking from the reserve fund that you are blaming the aldermen for.

There are no "experts" on either side of this issue. . Tthis country would not be in the financial mess it is in because the "experts" would have correctly predicted the future. Only time will tell if the right decisions were made.

Keep writing. You are a big help. Except for the ten people in your group that thrive on inbred concepts, bitterness and a sense of entitlement - and engage in a continuous "pat on the back" - all others are free to compare and contrast the content in these blog responses. I am reminded by the debate between two great authors - Kipling and Samuel Clemens, I believe (I am getting older). When speaking of Kipling, Clemens said something like, "Kipling knows everything, but (I) know the rest." joeblow, do you understand who I am comparing you to?
I confidently put my writing / content up against yours.
I get my information from watching, reading and observing. All part of the public record and again, there are plenty of us out there - observing. Just watch a replay of the Council meeting featuring the amazing display of Mayor Chiovatero fighting for his tax increase / override. Again his quotes included, "we should have taxed everyone more in the good years" and the wonderfully sincere, (the tax increase) "is only $25 bucks" (per person). Council members, that should be included in your election materials, if not the headline. My word, there is so much material for conservatives running against lefties (now that they are revealed - in these tough times). NBCRG?
Character is eventually revealed. joeblow, you demonstrate yours very well. New candidates for council (a good thing) - are you reading this? Are you prepared to be supported by this guy? His obvious bitterness and "axes to grind" help you? And then join the Mayor and his vision (lol)? Remember your audience and who votes and now, who may vote. I hope you realize the "chosen / entitled" like joeblow - 10 people, with their arrogance AND ignorance - are not representative of NB.
The money, contributions, letter writing, printing and lawn signs provided may be great and have impact, but character (and conviction / integrity) will be revealed, or better yet, exposed.

In my posting I quote from documented sites. (see above)
In your posts you post opinion and create summation.
There's a difference.
You lack credibility.
When you feel you're losing the debate you scream lefty or liberal.
You're an idiot.

Character? What a great example of character you are. You must do those around you proud.
My detailed and thorough responses stand. Many sources available to substantiate, including recent articles contained in this site. Your response is typical "lefty". When the discussion gets specific and on point, you can't keep up and resort to the antics of a child. Typical spew. The denial of the public record and force others to do your homework is page 2 of the lefty playbook.
Only in your world (and of the other crewmembers of the Mayor) is the Mayor NOT responsible for anything. Of course, it is an Alderman, or two. Not the Mayor. Never. No responsibility at all. The Mayor is clean. On the job for 5 years. The Mayor? What is a Mayor then?
Keep writing, you do a great job of marginalizing and reducing the Mayor to nothing more than a photo op. And prove my point(s). I am sure he is thankful for your work.

you can't make any points by being insulting.

Taxed too much ... you're right on time too.
You both cite information that is unsubstantiated. You cite information from what source?
Who do you think approves payment of funds and movement of money - your aldermen.
The posting I made was relevant to the topic at hand. You're both so busy trying to discredit the mayor you both have wrong information. (again).
You cite a water increase of 20 to 30% and blame the mayor - you're an idiot.
Give specifics and reference minutes of meetings. Rather than rants.
Is there a full moon again?

Mayor Chiovatero covered-up a $600,000 budget shortfall during the election, owed now, but you don't mention that.
It is a cover-up as the Mayor said he has worked tirelessly and daily with the financial team (not the Council's finance committee) because he didn't like the lack of representation on the committee (i.e No Moore or Poshepny?). Can the Mayor just bypass the Finance Committee? If he worked daily with his team, he knew of the shortfall prior to the election (a cover-up), or he is an idiot. It is one or the other. But, you don't mention that.
Mayor Chiovatero raided $1,000,000 from the fund, to go along with a 3.6% tax increase, after a 6% proposed tax increase, but you don't mention that.
The Council voted to allocate another $800,000 from the fund (with no tax increase), less than the Mayor's $1,000,000 and about the number to balance the Mayor's cover-up. In an emergency year. But, you don't mention that.
Ehlers said Moody's desires a fund balance % of 15% to maintain the high rating, and after the fund balance allocation, NB will be at 24%. 24%! But, you don't mention that.
And the Mayor rants and raves about next year being a disaster, while the Council is working on a 3 year plan. Including revenue generating concepts and cost cutting, including consolidation and outsourcing attempts? Where is the Mayor on this? More rants and raves about tax increases? But, you don't mention that.
And we are looking at a 20-30% increase in water, in 2010, due to the Mayor's deal with Milwaukee, but you don't mention that.
The Mayor said he should have taxed us more in the good years, but you don't mention that.
I believe the election year will be fun. Bring on your candidates and have them saddle up to the Mayor and his vision. Who wants to run on the Mayor's platform of tax increases / we have not paid enough? Character is revealed in tough times.
