Where Will Our Rights Be Left?

Just a reminder there is a New Berlin Board of Education meeting tonight at New Berlin West Middle/High School.  Open session will begin at 7pm or immediately following the closed session, which begins at 6pm.

Then, tomorrow night, the New Berlin Common Council meets at City Hall on this agenda.  In between the routine items of business there is a lot the average citizen can learn about how our city is run, and it's an interesting process to learn about.  And if you skip watching it on cable and attend directly, you pick up a different vibe by being able to look around the room.

Our School Board is in the middle of the budgeting process for the new year, and there is never a better time than right now for you to take a closer look at their agenda.  Better yet, set aside some time and attend the meeting in person.  Just as I mention about the Common Council meeting, you have  the opportunity to develop a deeper appreciation for the process the Board must handle.

I love our country.  I love our local community.  And I love the fact that even with as many issues of debate as our national, state, and local governments produce, we live in a wonderful place where our very survival rarely comes into question.  But I worry that empty chairs at public meetings run the risk of displaying a message of public apathy, unintended or otherwise. Where will our rights be left?  It is always up to us.

Ask the "voters" in this so-called democratic process.
