Marquette Univ. Priest/Theologian/Professor Speaks Out Against Walker's Budget Repair Bill
Scott Walker attended Marquette University.
It was interesting to read in today’s Journal Sentinel what the Rev. Bryan N. Massingale, associate professor of theological ethics at Marquette University and past president of the Catholic Theological Society of America has to say about Gov. Walker/ Walker’s budget repair bill *-----
Prank Call Bill Spoofed
Yesterday's Colbert Report segment titled Wisconsin Prank Call Bill is hilarious.
Sen. Mary Lazich( R-New Berlin) is one of the two Republican legislators who sponsored the bill.
Bad News For Gov. Walker/Rasmussen Poll: Walker's Disapproval Rating Near 60%
Per Examiner.com:
“A new poll from Rasmussen Reports shows that nearly 60% of Wisconsin's likely voters now disapprove of Governor Scott Walker's job performance. According to the poll of 800 likely Wisconsin voters from March 2nd, a majority (57%) now disapprove of Walker. Of larger concern to Walker is the fact that 48% of likely Wisconsin voters now "strongly disapprove" of Walker. Walker was not elected by a large margin, defeating his Democratic opponent by a four-point margin (52-48). Now only 43% approve of the job Walker is doing, making him potentially ripe for a recall bid.
Scott Walker--the Divider
Gov. Walker has divided rather than unified our state’s population.
The March 5 Journal Sentinel reports:
Gov. Walker's Assault on Public Education--- A War on Equality
Howard Schweber, Associate Professor of Political Science and Law, University of Wisconsin-Madison writes:
“But despite all its defects, it remains the case that in America, and specifically in Wisconsin, publicly funded education is a powerful equalizing force, almost the only one left.”
RIP Tony Goedheer
I was informed today that Tony Goedheer had passed away.
I am quite saddened by that news.
Crushing Workers Won't Solve Deficits Says Congressman
Congressman Jim McDermott contends:
“While millions of ordinary Americans have been struggling to cope with the harsh economic realities of the last two years, Republican elected officials have focused their attention on ways to take political advantage of widespread hardship. Republicans have decided that ongoing economic turmoil offers a perfect opportunity to go after their political opponents.
Voucher Expansion
Barbara Miner, a journalist who specializes in education writes:
“ Taken as a whole, the Walker budget is a blueprint for expanding private schools and destroying public schools. And there's nothing to stop this tragedy from spreading to the entire state. Unless, of course, legislators do the right thing and protect the American dream of a free and public education for all children. It isn't hard. It won't cost a penny. Just say no to the voucher expansion.”
Media Sues Gov. Walker Over Access to E-mails
Two news organizations filed a lawsuit against Gov. Walker this month over alleged failure to respond to open records requests.
The Isthmus newspaper and the Wisconsin Associated Press filed the suit on March 4.
Ain't No "Sunshine"--New Berlin School District
This is Sunshine Week, which has been described as a national initiative to promote a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information. Though created by journalists, Sunshine Week is about the public’s right to know what its government is doing, and why.
We could use more “sunshine” in the School District of New Berlin:
On the Subject of Candidate Forums
In his letter ( March 3, New Berlin NOW), Ron Koessler complained that New Berlin residents will be deprived of the opportunity to question candidates who declined to participate in the candidate forum scheduled for March 19 at New Berlin West School.
Jennifer Eitel and Keith Heun declined to participate in candidate forums when running for public office. Didn’t Koessler think that deprived the public of an opportunity to question the candidates? And when Ken Harenda skipped the mayoral candidate forum at New Berlin West before the primary in 2009, didn’t that deprive people of an opportunity to question him?
About Bentley's Letter, Candidates' Responses to CNI's Voter's Guide Questionnarie in Last Week's NOW
Re: The letter from Vern Bentley and a Voters Guide (candidates’ response to CNI questionnaire) published in last week’s New Berlin NOW:
Since Bentley's letter gives “special thanks” to Ted Wysocki for his public service (alderman and former mayor), but does not even mention Bill Moore, I'd like to remind folks that both Aldermen Wysocki and Moore are stepping down in April. This is Moore’s second term as District 6 Alderman and he had already served two terms on the New Berlin School Board. Unlike Wysocki, Moore has never lost an election in New Berlin. “Former mayor” Wysocki served one mayoral term, but was not re-elected mayor ( He was defeated by Jack Chiovatero in 2005 and 2009).
