Governor Doyle proposes new initiatives to protect Wisconsin's working lands as part of biennial budget
We are happy to report that Governor Doyle has acted decisively to protect Wisconsin's farm and forest lands. Wisconsin must take steps to protect these lands and the positive impacts they have on the state's economy and environment. Included in the Governor's budget-neutral proposal unveiled Tuesday is a set of tools to protect working lands, including:
We will share details about each of these proposals as they become available. In the meantime:
Please thank the Governor…
The Governor has shown tremendous leadership and a deep understanding of the importance of agriculture and forestry to our local and state economies by including these initiatives in his state budget. Please take the time to thank the Governor by sending a note to: Governor Jim Doyle, P.O. Box 7863, Madison, WI 53707
And contact your state lawmakers…
The state budget now goes before the state Legislature's Joint Finance Committee for consideration and must eventually be approved by both the state Senate and Assembly. Please let your legislators know that you support the Working Lands Initiative. To find out who your legislators are and how to reach them, go to: http://www.legis.wisconsin.gov/w3asp/waml/waml.aspx

In tough economic times; is this how the government uses stimulus money? This will not create one single job. It only transfers part of the landowner’s rights to government.

People, you must understand the risk these pose to our children’s liberty. Once a land conservancy is established, it is essentially irrevocable. From that time forward, only politicians can change the function through eminent domain; meaning the land will always be only for governmental use.

Hands Off Our Land!
"Comprehensive land use planning" is a quiet, low profile phenomenon that poses a profound threat to the rights of local governments and citizens to control use of their own land and property rights. First Freedoms Foundation is working with Americans for Prosperity Wisconsin Chapter ("AFPWI"), in a state-wide effort to educate local governments and develop strategies to protect those rights.
