The Two Romneys

The contrast between George Romney and his son Mitt---their business careers and willingness to come clean about their financial affairs--was the focus of Paul Krugman's July 8 op-ed in the New York Times.

Art 'N Oddities

art, fun, gallery, faux mosaic mirror, classes

I first heard about Art ‘N Oddities from a friend of mine. She had taken a class there once before, and thoroughly enjoyed it. When she spotted a deal on Groupon for a faux mosaic class, she invited me along. I thought “Oh no, another craft class! My house is starting to look like a craft store already, with all the different arts and crafts projects I have going.” But the price, location and the opportunity to have a night out with good company was too good to pass up. It sounded like fun, and I decided to join the ladies and give it a try.

I was a little early, so I waited outside for the gang to arrive. The shop is located in Milwaukee, around 58th and Lincoln. I stood there studying the building, still amazed at how many times I have driven right by and never knew it was there!  If not for the specific instructions on where it was located, I would have driven right past this quaint little place.

Who Knows Felons Best?

The Liberal scheme of things poltical uses the old Alinsky tactic of repeat, repeat, repeat. Their hope is that the most gullible will believe these distortions, and repeat them again.

In the latest assault on Romney a member of Obama's staff said Romeny is a felon centers around Romney's position at Bain Capital during the1999-2001 period. Romney and Bain are made out to be those awful evil corporate people who outsourced jobs overseas and, for Romney for investing abroad.

Quality Time with our Children

Have you ever had a moment where you’ve looked at your child and thought, “Is that really my little boy?” or “Can that young woman really be my daughter?” I recall a time when my son James ran up to me after swimming. For a second I didn’t recognize my own son! Overnight it seemed he had grown several inches! His cheeks slimmed down, and his shoulders were broad like a young man. But just yesterday he had been my little boy!

A Political Hairball

information access, Elections

“ Months after he mathematically locked up the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney remains a political hairball that GOP insiders –conservative and otherwise—wish they could cough up before the convention in Tampa, Fla., next month, ”   says Howard Fineman in his July 18 Huffington Post blog entry Mitt Romney Taxes Controversy Shows He’s Still A Tough Sell.

Fineman contends:  “Republican leaders, especially conservatives, see Romney as a malleable, cynical power-grabber without principle or compass.  They warned voters that Romney would be unable to take the fight to Obama on health care because he had fostered a similar program as governor of Massachusetts, and they argued that a wealthy, well-connected son of privilege was not a good spokesman for selling free-market ideas to the middle class.”

"Gated Candidate"- "Hiding in Plain Sight"

information access, Elections, New Berlin Schools

Last month, I blogged about the School District of New Berlin acting like a gated community---utilizing barriers, limiting public access, insulating/isolating some people, shutting out the community.  See my June 26 blog post Like a Gated Community, the NB School District…

It was intriguing to read a recent blog ( July 26, Huffington Post)  by Robert L. Borosage that calls Mitt Romney a “gated candidate”.
