NBCRG, CCNB and the City Center
New Berlin Citizens for Responsible Government (NBCRG) and Concerned Citizens of New Berlin (CCNB) are registered political action committees that made unsuccessful attempts to oust Jack Chiovatero and Bill Moore from office.
NBCRG endorsed Mayor Ted Wysocki for re-election in 2005. Wysocki lost to Jack Chiovatero. In 2009, when Mayor Chiovatero sought re-election, Aldermen Ken Harenda and Wysocki ran against him. Chiovatero received more votes than Wysocki and Harenda combined. Harenda, who got only 934 votes, was eliminated in the primary. In the general election, Chiovatero beat Wysocki, who was backed by NBCRG, by a bigger margin than he had in 2005. In 2008, Bill Moore was re-elected 6th District alderman. He beat JJ Blonien, who was endorsed by NBCRG.
Annual Meeting Analysis
The July 25, 2011 District of New Berlin Annual Meeting seemed like a NBCRG reunion or rally.
Approximately 60 District voters were in attendance. That included NBCRG President Ralph Heun, Alderman Dave Ament (supported by NBCRG), Vern Bentley (aligned with NBCRG), the current NB school board members ( all were endorsed by NBCRG), Superintendent Joe Garza (hired by those NBCRG-endorsed school board members), Keith Heun, Jennifer Eitel, Matt Weiss (former school board members endorsed by NBCRG, each went to the microphone to speak during the meeting), etc.
Post Recall
Last year, Laura Karvala and her Concerned Citizens of New Berlin (CCNB) political action committee’s unsuccessful recall against Mayor Chiovatero and Ald. Moore was in the spotlight (locally). The recall fizzled when CCNB failed to get the required number of signatures to hold a recall election. According to its press release, CCNB formed to fight low-income housing slated for the City Center. CCNB targeted the mayor mostly because of his Plan Commission vote concerning that issue.
I suspect CCNB’s rationale would irk State Rep. Robin Vos (R-Rochester), who is apparently not supportive of recalls that result because some citizens disagree with policy decisions or how the officials voted on issues. More about that later in this blog post.
Neo-Nazi Rally Planned for Labor Day Weekend
The Journal Sentinel reports that the National Socialist Movement, a neo-Nazi group, is planning an afternoon rally at West Allis City Hall on Saturday, September 3.
The newspaper conveys that a local representative of the National Socialist Movement, who lives in New Berlin and would only identify herself as Harriet P, hopes that 50-100 members and sympathizers of her group will be present at the rally and said all participants have been told not to bring guns or any other weapons--- But if push comes to shove, members will have no problem “returning to the good old days of duking it out”.
Organizer of Sept 3 Neo-Nazi Rally is Considering Running for New Berlin Common Council?!
A New Berlin resident, identified by the Journal Sentinel as Harriet P, is organizing a National Socialist Movement rally this Saturday at West Allis City Hall. See my previous blog post.
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups and domestic terrorists nationally, the Detroit-based National Socialist Movement is one of the largest and most prominent neo-Nazi groups in the United States. NSM ideology mirrors that of the original American Nazi Party. Harriet P's white supremacist group openly idolizes Adolf Hitler.
