Journal Sentinel watchdog reporter Dan Bice’s June 1, 2012 column begins with:
“ Milwaukee County prosecutors opened the secret John Doe criminal investigation more than two years ago after being stonewalled by Gov. Scott Walker's office when he was county executive, according to a newly released record.
Several reasons many people feel Walker has damaged Wisconsin were cited in a recent Shepherd Express article by Lisa Kaiser:
1. Walker has worst-job creation record in the country. According to verified, official data, the state has lost 33,000 jobs in the past year. The perks Walker showered on corporations and the wealthy, including $2.3 billion in tax breaks over the next decade, are not trickling down to the average Wisconsin resident.
Some people think that recalls should be held only in the case of criminal misconduct.
But that’s not what the state constitution says.
Last Thursday (June 7), it was announced to the community that Keith Hastings, the New Berlin School Board Vice-President, had resigned—effective immediately.
School board members are elected to 3-year terms. Hastings’ term didn't expire until April 2013.
The School District of New Berlin issued layoff notices last week to most of its custodial staff “as part of a move to save money by outsourcing cleaning services" said Superintendent Joe Garza. (See jsonline.com, June 13 news report. )
Also, the district "sought to balance its budget using the so-called “tools” in the state Act 10 passed last summer. Act 10 and other state legislation together stripped public employee unions of nearly all their powers to affect pay, working conditions and other critical matters. School districts are replacing employee contracts with employee handbooks.” District of New Berlin teachers are saying the district does not value and respect teachers or their opinions. “The teachers said a widespread feeling that they are not valued has touched off a mass exodus." My previous blog post refers to it.
