ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM REPORT

Moving New Berlin Forward Update: Superintendent Joe Garza asked Board members to join Moving New Berlin Forward’s LinkedIn Group. He also announced the New Berlin Rotary and District sponsored Kids from Wisconsin event at the Performing Arts Center – August 22nd at 7 p.m.

REGULAR AGENDA

First Read: Secondary School Programming: High School Phy Ed Credit Waiver Option Update (Act 105): As per Act 105, the District has allowed students to waive participation in physical education classes if they participate in WIAA-sanctioned sports.  While not WIAA-sanctioned, administration is recommending that poms and cheerleading participation become eligible for the waiver. Based on parent feedback, the District will also waive participation in phy ed courses if a student can demonstrate participation in a non-school-sanctioned athletic activity. The Board and administration discussed their belief that if students are getting their physical education needs met elsewhere, they should be able to take an academic course in lieu of a phy ed course if they wish. Recommended policy changes will be considered by the Board in August.

Revision to Athletic & Activities Code of Conduct: Revision suggestions include that students must complete all required forms on New Berlin Eisenhower & New Berlin West’s Athletics & Activities webpage to participate in athletics & activities.

Long-Range Facilities Projects: Chief Finance & Operations Officer Roger Dickson discussed projects that have been identified through the long-range facilities planning process that have no funding source.

The District will conduct a community phone and online survey to determine the community’s opinions on unfunded projects.
