ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM REPORT
College & Career Readiness: Interim Director of College & Career Readiness Laura Schmidt, Director of Personalized Learning Larry Lueck and College & Career Readiness Intern Stephanie Seymour reported on progress with the College & Career Readiness Action Plan. Updates were provided on the It’s My Future Program, Career & Service Based Learning, ACT Work Keys Pilot, Senior Exit Survey, Student Recognitions, and 2014-15 Grants. View the presentation here.
Update on Current Facilities Projects: Director of Buildings & Grounds Andy Stefancin gave an update on current facilities projects. Director of Communications Melinda Mueller shared the Long-Range Facilities Plan webpage with the Board, which includes the long-range plan, Summer 2014 projects and photos of construction progress at Eisenhower.
Long-Range Facilities Plan: Chief Finance & Operations Officer presented on the Long-Range Facilities Plan that the Board approved. Within the presentation he explained there are still several unfunded projects that need to be addressed or deferred. The Board, with the exception of Susan Manley, agreed to poll the community about its support of unfunded projects. The polling process and questions will be reviewed by the Board.
Federal School Lunch Program: Chief Finance & Operations Officer Roger Dickson reported that the District will continue to participate in the National School Lunch Program. It is advantageous to do so for the federal funding it provides the free & reduced lunch program.
Policy/Procedures impacted by E-Cigarettes: As a result of heighted attention on e-cigarettes, Superintendent Garza explained that the district’s current policy prohibits “smoking materials.” It is not specific to cigarettes, or even tobacco, so e-cigarettes are covered. The handbook also has a provision regarding “look alike” substances, which would provide an added basis for prohibiting e-cigarettes.
2014-15 WASB Membership: While the Board does not support the ideology of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB), the district utilizes the association’s policy and legal services. The Board approved continuing its membership in WASB for 2014-15.
