Board President Dave Maxey recognized the May 5-9 Teacher Appreciation Week and shared a message of gratitude to teachers. He also thanked all staff who were involved in planning the widely-attended community drug awareness event May 7. Maxey encouraged all parents who were unable to attend to become aware of the warning signs of drug use.
Superintendent’s Message - Moving New Berlin Forward Update
Superintendent Garza shared that the dates of March 20-21, 2015 have been scheduled for next year’s Discover New Berlin Expo with the New Berlin Chamber of Commerce. The event will be held at New Berlin Eisenhower to showcase facility renovations to the community.
Student Representative Update
New Berlin Eisenhower Student Representative Nitish Katta reported on a recent staff, student and parent workshop that discussed the Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO) period at the middle/high schools. He shared student feedback that time to connect with teachers during ELO is important. Superintendent Garza shared that decisions about ELO for next school year will be shared soon.
Katta also discussed the New Berlin Blitz Robotics team’s trip the world championships in St. Louis, 45th out of 100 teams in its division. The team will be recognized at an upcoming board meeting. He also announced an upcoming dodgeball tournament at Ike.
Revision to Policy 1120 – Board of Education Meetings: The District is not required to have an “official” newspaper therefore has removed that language from policy. The District plans to utilize the Waukesha Freeman to publish notices as it is printed daily. Notices will continue to be sent to all media outlets who request them.
The Board accepted the 2013-14 Resident Pupil and Integration Transfer Program Membership Count Audit.
