New Berlin Eisenhower, West Honored as AP Pacesetter Schools
AP success ranks both schools in Wisconsin’s top five for college readiness by U.S. News & World Report
New Berlin, Wis. – New Berlin Eisenhower and New Berlin West were recognized as Level 1 Advanced Placement Pacesetter Schools for their high student AP exam participation and results.
The inaugural Pacesetter School awards are presented by the Wisconsin Advanced Placement Advisory Council (WAPAC) in partnership with Wisconsin Cooperative Educational Services Agencies (CESAs). The first year awards are based on 2012-13 data – the most recent available - and recognize three levels of achievement.
Schools recognized as Level 1 had more than 30% of students take AP exams and more than 70% score a 3 or higher on the exams. Level 2 schools had greater than 20% participation and more than 65% score a 3 or higher. Level 3 schools had greater than 10% participation and more than 60% score a 3 or higher.
WAPAC recognized New Berlin Eisenhower and West in the top Level 1 Pacesetters for “impressive student AP access and excellence in AP exam scores in the State of Wisconsin.”
In 2012-13 Eisenhower and West had a combined average of 34% of students take AP exams and 76.4% score a 3 or higher.
“Our students’ ability to excel in the more than 20 AP courses we offer demonstrates the level of excellence we expect in the School District of New Berlin,” said Superintendent Joe Garza. “Our AP program offers rigorous learning experiences to prepare students at all learning levels for college and careers.”
School District of New Berlin (SDNB) AP courses are available to District students, as well as students who reside in other school districts, attend private/parochial schools, or are home-schooled. Eisenhower, West Among Top in State in College Readiness
Based on its AP success, both schools were recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report on its 2014 Best High School list. New Berlin Eisenhower and West were ranked as the third and fourth best high schools in Wisconsin for college readiness.
Whitefish Bay High School ranked first and Cedarburg High School as second for college readiness in Wisconsin. Rounding out the top 10 in the state for college readiness after New Berlin Eisenhower and West were Arrowhead, Brookfield East, Middleton, Kimberly, Brookfield Central and Nicolet.
