Information for the New Berlin community on school district news, events, and celebrations of success.
The School District of New Berlin is proud to have had two high school seniors, Scott Thom and Alexander (AJ) Hoelke (both from New Berlin Eisenhower) selected from schools across the region to join Governor Scott Walker on stage for the State of the State address to represent WCTC's newly developed Dual Enrollment Program. “So many employers tell us they would take on more work and create more jobs, if they could only fill the positions they have open today, particularly in manufacturing. It’s important to remind our young people about the valuable careers available in our skilled trades,”" Governor Walker said.
This year's pilot program involves a partnership between WCTC, regional K-12 schools, the Office of Workforce Development and the WI Economic Development Corporation. Forty participants from eleven school districts are participating in the program this year. The programs offered will likely vary from year to year based on industry demand and the availability needed resources at WCTC. WCTC hopes that the success of this program can be replicated throughout the WI Technical College System in years to come.
This year's Dual Enrollment Academies allowed motivated students to pursue coursework in one of the following Programs of Study: Information Networking Technology, CNC/Tool and Die, Metal Fabrication/Welding. Students receive work based exposure and are connected to employers for tuition assistance and/or employment following high school graduation. Students attend their home school for part of the day and WCTC for the remainder of their day. They earn high school elective credit as well as 20-25 WI Technical College System credits. All credits earned articulate into technical and/or associate degree programs which can later be articulated into a bachelor's degree at partner schools.
All students participating in the program this year were commended for their work given the rigor of the program. The following School District of New Berlin students participated in this year's Dual Enrollment Academy:
- Scott Thom, Information Networking, Eisenhower
- Nathan Gorecki, Information Networking, Eisenhower
- Alexander (AJ) Hoelke, Welding, Eisenhower
- Timothy Stolowski, Welding, West

- Chun You Yang, Welding, West
Students with the highest GPA earned during the first semester of the year long program were invited to join Governor Walker at the State of the State address.
