Gold Key winners: Chelsea Jarnig, Danielle Svehlek and Jenna Waligorski; Silver Key winners: Rachel Bonin, Abbey Butzine and Daniel Meyer; Honorable Mentions: Daniel Meyer, Alexis Pitre, Danielle Svehlek and Madeline Vang. The Gold and Silver Key winners' artwork was displayed for a month at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Goals, Projects & Initiatives Updates:
Educator Effectiveness: Director of Educator Effectiveness Michelle Schwab reported on teacher evaluation processes and the first year that the tool Teachscape was used. Some educators began training for next year's pilot of using student learning objectives in evaluations. Schwab also noted that all but a few educator openings have been filled.

Grading and Reporting: Director of Curriculum & Assessment Eileen Depka discussed clarification needed for grading policies. Grades should continue to be based on students' academic knowledge and performance. Feedback will continue to be provided on behavior, but grades should reflect academic ability. Homework that is practice may not be graded; homework that is summative (showing mastery of learning) may be graded. A committee will work next year to ensure the policy is consistently implemented.

Employment Opportunities for Students with Disabilities and At-Risk: Kathy Erickson, manager of the Transitions program for students ages 18 to 21, talked about recent successes finding local employment for students with disabilities. One 2013 graduate whose dream was to work at a movie theater landed a part-time job at Marcus' Ridge Cinema. Erickson praised the Marcus Corp., as well as other employers including the Peach Tree restaurant, YMCA, Fuddruckers, Texas Roadhouse and Proctor Investments, for hiring disabled youth who have demonstrated they can be the most hard-working and motivational employees on staff. More job opportunities are needed. "Every business has a small job that isn't getting done. Those are the jobs that I need to know about," Erickson said.

District Information and Technology Plan: The Board approved the district's Information and Technology Plan which is built around four objectives: student learning, professional development, access and community. Director of Learning Technology Larry Lueck explained that work on some goals will span as much as three years, with completion by June 2016. Greater student engagement in learning will be one focus.

Presentation of Preliminary Budget for 2013-14:
Chief Finance & Operations Officer Roger Dickson presented a preliminary $62.2 million budget for 2013-14. The Board will adopt a preliminary budget at its June 24 meeting. The budget will be presented at the district’s annual meeting & budget hearing on August 12. The final budget is approved in the fall after final enrollment and state aid projections are known.
