State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.
The non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau provided Joint Finance Committee Members a memo today about a $1 billion reserve account at the University of Wisconsin (UW) System containing more than $414 million dollars in surplus tuition payments. This surplus follows recent information about the UW System overspending $32.9 million.
I join with my colleagues in calling for a freeze on University of Wisconsin System tuition. Building a huge balance on the backs of Wisconsin taxpayers and UW students while the rest of the state, both the government and citizens, make prudent financial decisions demonstrates reprehensible UW leadership.
