Congratulations Mary Jane Whitty---John Ziino Civic Person of the Year Award Winner
Each year the New Berlin Chamber of Commerce presents a deserving citizen the John Ziino civic award for their dedicated service to the betterment of the city and its residents.
Congratulations Mary Jane Whitty on being named the 2013 recipient of the John Ziino Civic Award.
The award was presented at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting yesterday and held at the New Berlin Hills Golf Course banquet facility.
The Certificate of Recognition presented to Mary Jane Whitty by Mayor Chiovatero states:
In sincere appreciation for her 42 years of dedicated service to the youth of New Berlin -- committing her time and talents as guidance counselor, advisor, mentor, and coach. Her loving concern for her students has reached beyond the school day, beyond a lesson plan, and beyond a scheduling conflict. “They may forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel”—Carol Buchner Mary Jane, you have taught your students the joy of giving back to others, the satisfaction of accomplishment and the strength in community.
In addition, here today, we express our gratitude for Mary Jane’s continuous work with the New Berlin Veterans Memorial Committee/Society since its inception in 2004, as well as her continuous commitment to the Senior Advocate Youth Exchange Program (SAYES) since its inception in 1999. Her work has crossed generational lines and has connected all ages to one another.
NOW THEREFORE, on behalf of the citizens of the City of New Berlin, I do hereby extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mary Jane Whitty on being named the 2013 recipient of The John Ziino Civic Award. Mary Jane, your leadership and heart serves as an inspiration to all. Winston Churchill one said, “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” We commend you for the life you have crafted throughout these many years, and more importantly, for sharing that life with this community.
