Re: Notice of Delinquent Personal Property Taxes (It Includes Dave Ament's Business) in Yesterday's NOW Newspaper

City government, Elections

On page 21 of Thursday’s March 14, 2013 New Berlin Now newspaper, you will find a legal notice:

Notice of Unpaid Delinquent “Personal Property Tax” -- City of New Berlin, Wisconsin.

It's for personal property taxes assessed for  2009 thru 2011 that are delinquent.

Dave Ament’s business Ament Industrial Truck is listed on  it  (under heading 2011)

When the City sent that notice last week to the newspaper for publication, Ament Industrial Truck had two years outstanding unpaid personal property taxes, according to the City Finance Director. He said Ament Industrial Truck’s 2011 personal property taxes due Jan. 31, 2012 and 2012 personal property taxes due Jan. 31, 2013 were not paid and both were considered delinquent.

On March 7, I posted my blog Ament Industrial Truck and Delinquent Personal Property Taxes.  No doubt, the buzz it  generated spurred some action.

Because the very next day  (March 8),  Ament Industrial Truck paid its delinquent personal property taxes, according to the City Finance Dept.  The notice on the City Website was amended to reflect that  (Ament Industrial Truck was removed from it).

Dave Ament is a multi-term alderman currently running for mayor.   In New Berlin, the mayor also serves as administrator.

Ament's  supporters claim he runs a successful New Berlin business.

But what we know for a fact is Ament owns a business that is habitually delinquent in paying  the personal property taxes owed to the City of New Berlin.

Indeed, I know of  at least one other time (in addition to the two mentioned) that  Ament Industrial Truck had delinquent personal property taxes:

A Legal Notice of Unpaid Delinquent “Personal Property Tax”--  City of New Berlin, was published in the  March 31, 2011 issue of New Berlin Now. It was for delinquent personal property taxes assessed for 2007 thru 2010.     Ament Industrial Truck, the company Dave Ament owns, was on that list (under the heading 2010).

According to City Finance Dept. records, Ament Industrial Truck paid those delinquent personal property taxes, but not until AFTER the legal notice of unpaid delinquent personal property taxes was sent to the newspaper for publication.

Hmmm.  Delinquent taxes.  2010.  2011.  2012.

Seems so irresponsible.

Like most of us,  I pay my property taxes on time.

I expect the elected officials on the Common Council (mayor and aldermen) to pay whatever taxes they owe the City of New Berlin when they are due.

And not have to be prodded or shamed into doing it.
