SDNB's Top 6 Spellers Advance to the Regional Bee

So you think that you can spell?

Maybe not as well as these six New Berlin students, who topped the district wide spelling bee this week and now are headed to a regional bee next month.

A hearty c-o-n-g-r-a-t-u-l-a-t-i-o-n-s to these students, who finished in this rank order:

1. Riya Mehta, 8th grader, Eisenhower
2. Josh Lucchesi, 6th grader, Poplar Creek
3. Madeline Soiney, 7th grader, West
4. Andrew Laeuger, 6th grader, Orchard Lane
5. Ashwin Sankrithi, 6th grader, Orchard Lane
6. Kyra Levandoski, 4th grader, Ronald Reagan
A total of 28 students from 4th to 8th grade competed in the district's bee, held Wednesday evening at New Berlin West's performing arts center. Each school sent its top spellers to the district wide event.
The six SDNB finalists will now advance to the CESA 1 Regional Spelling Bee to be held Feb. 12 in Pewaukee. Spellers from school districts across southeastern Wisconsin will compete and the top speller and an alternate will move on to the Badger State Spelling Bee in Madison in March. The champion of the Wisconsin event competes in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC from May 26 to June 1.
Last year, New Berlin Eisenhower's Riya Mehta won the CESA 1 Regional Spelling Bee to represent all of southeastern Wisconsin!
Best of luck to our spellers as they study for the next round.
