State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.

Week in review: Feb. 4-Feb. 11

Tuesday, the Senate approved two more of Gov. Walker’s nominations. Gary Hamblin will be the Secretary of Corrections and Ted Nickel will be the Commissioner of Insurance. I am confident both will do a great job.

Senate acts on Voter ID bill, Bob Uecker resolution

The Senate remained under a call of the house Thursday. Under a call of the house, absent members of the Senate are required to come to the Senate chamber. The 14 Senate Democrats have ignored this requirement for the last week. 

With 19 Republican members present, the Senate has a quorum and can deliberate and approve bills that do not have a fiscal impact. To approve bills with fiscal implications, the Senate needs a three-fifths quorum, or 20 members present.
