Monday Night: Packers vs District of NB Voters
The 2012 District of New Berlin Budget Hearing/Annual Meeting is on Monday, September 24, 7 p.m. at New Berlin West Middle/High School.
District administration will present the board-approved budget. During the Annual Meeting that follows, the electors will vote on the tax levy, board salaries and the date for the next Annual Meeting.
In preceding years (2006,2007,2008, 2009,2010, 2011), the Annual Meeting was held in July. So, why the change this year? It’s because District Administration at the 2011 Annual Meeting asked the electorate not to set the date for the 2012 Annual Meeting but instead authorize the School Board to determine the date of the Annual Meeting between May 15 and October 31.
May 15-Oct. 31 is quite a big time range! Lot's of flexibility there.
The School Board ultimately chose Monday, September 24th for the 2012 Annual Meeting.
Yeah, they selected a Monday night in fall for it. That's during football season.
Surely, they are aware that football is really big in Wisconsin.
The Green Bay Packers-- our state’s NFL team and Super Bowl XLV champions--- have many fans.
Maybe our school board members don’t watch Monday night football much, but lots of other people do—particularly when the Packers are playing.
And the Packers are playing on Monday. (Green Bay Packers at Seatle Seahawks. 7:30 p.m. )
Thanks to the school board, Packer fans who live in the School District of New Berlin get to choose between watching the live action NFL Packer game on TV at home, sports bars, etc,--- and coming to New Berlin West to cast a vote on the tax levy and board salaries.
Electors at this Annual Meeting may want to think twice about authorizing the School Board to determine the date of next year's Annual Meeting.
