Observations

Ray McInerny, Sr., and his wife Jean, have lived in New Berlin for 32 years.  A retired graphic artist, he now paints for his own enjoyment. This blog will attempt to present items of general interest to his New Berlin neighbors.

Wilbur Drive To Close

Wilbur Drive passed the Plan Commission by a 4-2 vote to keep it open; it was defeated in the Common Council of New Berlin on September 11, 2012 by a 6-1 margin.

Alderwoman Karvala passed an Ethics Committee hearing, and I congratulate her. The determination of the people on the Ethics Committee helped pave the way for the Council to act as they did.

I personally disagree with this decision but it's done and now we have to live with it. It appeared to me that too many people in that area of the Second District, and those in adjacent areas of the Fifth and Sixth Districts weren't involved enough. Not as many as needed followed this through the Plan Commission and the Board of Public Works and Council to influence the decision. They are the true losers if they actually wanted the road open as so many claimed.

That's all water over the dam now. The decision has been handed down and as far as I'm aware this is the final determination. How and where Wilbur Drive will be closed on the west end I imagine is up to the roads people of New Berlin and the Council. I hope that everyone will find some satisfaction in the closure when the final closure point is decided.

We now all have to make sure that the City Center continues to be improved. Principally with new local businesses and offices to make it a more attractive place than it is. The Library and the Medical Office Building across Michele Widmer Drive were a good start. Nothing much has happened since then. The new complex of apartments may stir some interest in development of a sold nature. Let's hope so.

Onward and Forward to better development and cohesion in our City.
