State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.
Yesterday, another Dane County judge found our voter photo ID law unconstitutional. The ruling is frustrating for advocates of fair and honest elections. However, I am confident that once the judicial process plays out the law will be fully restored.
My fellow legislators and I drafted a law that accepts multiple forms of ID and makes special accommodations for electors indefinitely confined or victims of sensitive crimes. Any elector in Wisconsin in need of an ID to vote may get one free of charge. Needless to say, we worked diligently to make sure the law would withstand constitutional muster, and we fully expect higher courts to agree.
