Kelly's Korner

I am married with one child. I have been a resident of New Berlin for 8 years. I enjoy the New Berlin community and I am proud to be a part of it. I love arts and crafts, painting, beading, coupon clipping, cooking and writing.

Art 'N Oddities

art, fun, gallery, faux mosaic mirror, classes

I first heard about Art ‘N Oddities from a friend of mine. She had taken a class there once before, and thoroughly enjoyed it. When she spotted a deal on Groupon for a faux mosaic class, she invited me along. I thought “Oh no, another craft class! My house is starting to look like a craft store already, with all the different arts and crafts projects I have going.” But the price, location and the opportunity to have a night out with good company was too good to pass up. It sounded like fun, and I decided to join the ladies and give it a try.

I was a little early, so I waited outside for the gang to arrive. The shop is located in Milwaukee, around 58th and Lincoln. I stood there studying the building, still amazed at how many times I have driven right by and never knew it was there!  If not for the specific instructions on where it was located, I would have driven right past this quaint little place.

Curiosity getting the best of me,  I ventured inside to take a peak. Meri, the gallery owner, greeted me at the door and showed me around the shop. Wow! I was instantly intrigued! This place was loaded with color and unique artwork everywhere. There was jewelry, paintings, stools, goblets, lamps and frames. Every piece was handmade. It was an eclectic mess, and I loved every little square inch of it!

Meri made me feel at home instantly. Her personality was just as interesting as her shop. She was so helpful and funny during the class!  I would have paid for her entertaining personality alone. The class started at 5:00 and ended about 7:30. But let me put it this way, no one was rushed out at 7:30 sharp. The atmosphere was relaxing, refreshing and exotic at the same time. In addition to the faux mosaic class Meri also offers goblet painting and drawing classes. And of course you can shop right in the classroom! I guarantee all items you have never seen before. Art ‘N Oddities: Stop in and check it out!
