2012 Ride For The National Veterans Wheelchair Games----Saturday, June 2
The National Veterans Wheelchair Games is the largest annual wheelchair sports competition in the world. Milwaukee hosted it in 2007.
The event offers 17 different sports to Veterans who use wheelchairs due to spinal cord injuries, amputations, and neurological diseases. The Games promote rehabilitation through rigorous competition in sports, such as basketball, rugby, softball, handcycling and others. The Games also provide opportunities for newly disabled veterans to gain sports skills and be exposed to other wheelchair athletes. In 2006, the “Ride for the National Veterans Wheelchair Games” was developed to help create awareness of the games and to raise funds to send Wisconsin paralyzed veterans to the games each year. The Games will be held this year in Richmond, Virginia. (June 25-30)
Motorcycle “Ride” participants have enjoyed miles of scenic landscape in Wisconsin, great entertainment, wonderful food and drink. There have also been terrific raffle and auction items, such as tickets to sporting events, gift certificates, Harley gear, autographed Packer footballs, etc.
The Ride theme changes every two years. This year’s will pay tribute to “Small Town WI”.
This year's Ride starts at Uke’s Harley Davidson off I-94 and HWY K in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Registration will be from 8-8:30 a.m. Participants will receive a collectors pin there and be briefed on the day’s events while enjoying breakfast sponsored by Portabella and Starbucks ( located at National and Moorland Rd, New Berlin). The journey will begin through small towns in Kenosha and Racine Counties. There will be a mid-point beverage stop at Greg’s Catering in Franksville before heading toward Milwaukee. We’ll travel to Bartolotta’s Rumpus Room in downtown Milwaukee for lunch (a backyard-style barbeque featuring pulled pork sandwiches, homemade potato salad and more). Raffle and auction will follow lunch and finish around 2:30 p.m.
