Snow Etc.
Snow in June! Below is a photo of snow on the ground my husband Ron and I observed during a recent hike in the Rocky Mountains:
Happy Fourth of July
Plenty of celebration activities scheduled in New Berlin for the July 4th holiday weekend.
The theme of this year's Independence Day parade was "The Spirit of America in New Berlin".
Ahhhh, Fresh Air At Last
Looks like we can breathe easier now thanks to Wisconsin's smoking ban, which takes effect today.
Hurrah!
Love Thy Neighbor
The Gospel reading at last Sunday’s Mass at Holy Apostles Catholic Church pertained to Biblical passage Luke:25-37. That’s the one about loving God and neighbor, and contains the parable of the Good Samaritan:
On one occasion, a lawyer stood up to pose him this problem: Teacher, what must I do to inherit everlasting life? Jesus answered him: What is written in the law? How do you read it? He replied: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
An Extraordinary Person
Only a very small percentage of Boy Scouts attain the highest rank of Eagle Scout.
New Berlin resident Tony Nitz did it last year.
CCNB, $40,000 for a Recall Election? Etc.
If New Berlin had a Recall Election, what would it cost? According to the City Clerk--- $40,000. Of course, it would be less costly if held at the same time as a Primary or General Election. And who’d be footing the bill? The City, or in other words, the taxpayers.
Concern Citizens of New Berlin, also known as CCNB, is a political organization. It registered as a Political Action Committee (PAC) with the City on May 25. On June 23rd, CCNB filed as a Recall Committee, officially beginning its attempt to recall Mayor Jack Chiovatero and Ald. Bill Moore.
"Expect Excellence"
Occasionally, someone expresses criticism of the District of New Berlin's new Expect Excellence/Alex the Achiever slogan/logo "branding".
For example, the following comment was posted to a recent New Berlin NOW news article about District cuts:
Nobody's Home
On June 4, I sent an email to the New Berlin School District (Superintendent Kreutzer) asking questions about Student Evaluation and Grading Policy # 6151, which had been approved by the School Board on May 24.
I haven’t gotten answers to those questions. On July 28, I emailed the Superintendent regarding it. I got an automated reply that said he was out of the office and will return August 5th.
