Conservatively Speaking

State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.

Governor Signs Three Lazich Bills Into Law

Today Governor Walker signed into law three bills I authored.

Senate Bill 341 (SB 341) corrects provisions of a law approved during a prior session prohibiting a person from opening a motor vehicle door on a highway without first taking necessary precautions to ensure the vehicle door does not interfere with traffic or endanger a person. Law enforcement training requires use of open car doors for protection. SB 341 allows law enforcement, fire fighters, and emergency medical personnel to leave open any vehicle door while the vehicle is stopped and the person is performing official duties.

Senate Bill 502 (SB 502) brings state law about children placed in out of home care into compliance with federal law. Wisconsin was in jeopardy of losing federal funding without SB 502 provisions.

Senate Bill 518 (SB 518) directs the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to exempt new gas stations from installing a Stage II Vapor Recovery System. Stage II is not necessary because most cars have onboard refueling vapor recovery systems. EPA proposed ending the mandate June 30, 2013. SB 518 eliminates senseless expenditures on new gas station construction.
