Gov. Walker's Idea of the Perfect Judicial Candidate?

State, Blogging

Gov. Walker’s appointment of Jennifer Dorow was reported by the Journal Sentinel on Dec. 23.

The article states:

Jennifer Dorow was appointed Friday to serve as a judge in Waukesha County Circuit Court by Gov. Scott Walker.

Dorow is a former assistant district attorney in Waukesha now in private practice with Huppertz & Dorow, S.C. She will replace Mark Gundrum, whom Walker recently appointed to the state Court of Appeals.

Dorow is the 16th judge appointed this year by Walker.

Dorow is a graduate of Marquette University and Regent University School of Law. She has been licensed to practice law in Wisconsin since 1996.”

But hold on!

Uppity Wisconsin’s Dec. 28  post supplies this interesting information and perspective:

“ Ahhh, another day, another jaw-dropping hire / appointment by Walker.

In the midst of a national scourge of child sexual predators coming to light, Walker has appointed attorney Jennifer Dorow, who specializes in defending such child predators, as the new Waukesha County judge.

Jennifer Dorow doesn't just rely on word-of-mouth, she explicitly advertises on her firm's website, under the heading "Areas of Practice," that defending child sexual predators is her specialty”

Yup. Click on this link to her firm’s website, which states stuff like  “ Waukesha child crimes defense lawyers at  Huppertz & Dorow, S.C. have more than 35 combined years of experience defending clients against serious child sex crime charges.”   "We defend against child sex crime accusations involving:

  • Child pornography
  • Child solicitation, including Internet solicitation of a minor
  • Child enticement
  • Statutory rape
  • Sexual assault of a minor
  • Sexual exploitation of a minor
  • Prostitution and Internet stings ..."

Uppity Wisconsin observes,

“Of course, everyone deserves to be represented in court by a qualified attorney, but I have never seen a defense attorney advertise their wanting to do this putrid task!

The kicker?  This all comes at the same time that Walker is announcing nearly a million in cuts to the state's management of the same sex offenders that Dorow specializes in defending.”

Also, check out Uppity Wisconsin’s Jan. 1  blog post  about the Dorow appointment, which conveys:

“Thanks to Governor Walker,  for the first time in Wisconsin history, a graduate of Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network School of Law (now known as Regent University School of Law) will be sitting on the bench as a circuit court judge.

This proud Pat Robertson law school grad would be the same Jennifer Dorow that is actively involved in the Wisconsin Republican Party and self-identifies as a "child sex crimes defense lawyer" on her website.

If Pat Robertson's law school rings a bell, its because it was only a few years ago that Dubya was universally criticized for packing his administration with young graduates of the law school, which is ranked near the bottom of law schools by U.S. News and World Report.  The Rolling Stone's Matt Taibbi called it "one of the most ridiculous learning institutions in the Western Hemisphere, a sort of highway rest area with legal accreditation" and Bill Maher skewered the school as "a school for people that couldn't get into the University of Phoenix" on Real Time (see clip  below).

What does Walker say about Dorow? He calls the 42 year old Dorow the "perfect judicial candidate."

Yes, you heard that right:  Walker calls someone that specializes in defending child sex criminals and went to Pat Robertson's sketchy law school the "perfect judicial candidate."

If Dorow is the "perfect judicial candidate" I would love to see the less-than-perfect candidates Walker didn't appoint to the bench!”
