Oh Deer

State, environment

Last week, Gov. Walker issued an executive order to create a white-tailed deer trustee.

Yup.  A  "deer trustee".

No word to the public yet on who will be the deer trustee or what the pay and tenure of that position will be.

However, the Journal Sentinel tells us:   “The Department of Administration is believed to have already selected the person for the position. Though the name has not been released, the person is said to be from Texas.”    The person selected to be the deer trustee will be named on Monday, according to state officials.

Well, well, well.     Didn’t Walker claim our state was broke?

The state budget he signed into law in June cuts about one billion dollars from schools and local governments.

Walker conveyed that curbing spending was crucial and those cuts were necessary.

Oh, but  creating  (and spending money on)  a new government position of  “deer trustee” is considered imperative?!!

Really?

“It is vitally important that hunters, sportsmen and women and conservationists trust the state to be a partner in helping to effectively sustain our deer populations,” said Gov. Walker in a statement. “I am issuing this executive order to ensure they have confidence in Wisconsin’s deer herd management practices.”     -----  Per Sept. 23, 2011  Journal Sentinel
