Congratulations to Judge Mark Gundrum on his appointment to the District 2 Court of Appeals following the retirement of Judge Daniel Anderson. Mark served Assembly District 84 from 1999 until 2010. Since August 2010, Mark served as Branch 2 Trial Court Judge for the Waukesha County Circuit Court.

The Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) will test the National Emergency Alert System Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at 1:00 PM Central Standard Time. Generac announced plans Monday to hire 300 to 400 new employees. According to FOX6now.com, the new employees will be mostly engineers and technicians at Generac plants in Waukesha, Whitewater and Eagle.

Identity Thieves Taking Aim at Cell Phones
Criminals are using a new tool to get at valuable personal information: texts to your cell phone.
Consumers throughout the United States were recently bombarded by text messages claiming to be from well-known banks, saying “your card has been deactivated,” and listing a phone number. People dialing the number were asked for account information, social security numbers and other personal identification numbers. With a victim's information in hand, the criminals can drain bank accounts, buy items with your charge card, or set up a phony charge account.
Government Accountability Board (GAB) Met Wednesday
The Government Accountability Board met Wednesday and made several critical rulings relating to election administration in Wisconsin.
With its first vote of the day, the Board unanimously passed a motion allowing technical college IDs to qualify as an acceptable form of identification under the new voter ID law. Each tech school’s ID will still have to meet the same standard that applies to other colleges and universities.
Veterans Day 2011
The year was 1919. Just a year before, one of the deadliest wars in the history of mankind had come to an end in the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month with the signing of the Armistice. The World War, as it was known, claimed the lives of nearly 10 million and left 21 million more wounded. To mark the day, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as Armistice Day.
Nearly 100 years later, Armistice Day is renamed Veterans Day, and it is our opportunity to thank veterans and active military. Wisconsin is home to over 25,000 military personnel, and each deserves a sincere thank you.

Committee Asks GAB To Write Formal Elections Rules
Today, the Legislature’s Joint Committee for the Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR) met and acted on several important elections issues.
JCRAR took executive action requiring the Government Accountability Board (GAB) to promulgate rules for the use of student ID stickers, technical college IDs, and pre-populated circulation forms.
Remembering Dick Wheeler
Last week, state government lost a man that was at the Capitol everyday and always eager to say hello and share conversation about Capitol activity. Dick Wheeler, publisher of the political reporting website TheWheelerReport.com, passed away suddenly Friday.
A memorial service was held this afternoon in the Capitol Rotunda. About 400 current and retired legislators and staff from both parties, members of the media and other dignitaries were on hand for the service. It was standing room only for a final farewell and eulogies by Senator Fred Risser, Senator Mike Ellis and Dick's daughter Gwyn Guenther.

Wisconsinites are contacting the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) after receiving telephone calls from people posing as representatives of Medicare or an insurance company and asking for a Social Security number or bank account number. DATCP has these tips to protect people from being a victim of telephone scams like this:

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation urges motorists to plan ahead this Thanksgiving weekend as they travel through the I-94 North-South Freeway Project. Motorists should give themselves extra time to get to their destination or consider adjusting their departure time, as holiday traffic is expected to add to the number of vehicles on the road.
WisDOT expects traffic to peak today, Wednesday, November 23 as travelers make their way to join friends and family for the Thanksgiving holiday. The heaviest travel day, however, is expected to be Sunday, November 27 as deer hunters join Thanksgiving holiday travelers in the return trip home. Expect delays during these peak travel periods.
