Conservatively Speaking

State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.

Illinois Takes Different Path To Balance Budget

Republicans in Wisconsin were able to close a massive budget deficit without large-scale layoffs of state employees, increasing taxes or reduction of services. Illinois, facing its own budget issues, is opting for a different budget-fix solution.

The Chicago Tribune reports Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is planning to issue layoff notices to thousands of state workers and close state facilities, including facilities providing services to mentally ill and developmentally disabled.

The grim Illinois news stands in stark contrast to Wisconsin news, as Republicans continue the process of reducing the size of government, lowering the tax burden on citizens, and getting people back to work.
